A vertex is a point in the yard that describes a location where traffic changes direction, such as a traffic corner, intersection, or where CHEs enter (ingress) or exit (egress) an area or yard block.
Within N4, vertices (multiple vertex) have real locations in space. This spatial location facilitates understanding the relationships between vertices.
How a vertex works
If you import a yard file (yard.nyd), you can select from a list of vertices with unspecified geometries. Similarly, when you import the berths.txt file, N4 writes the vertices defined in the berths.txt file to the yard.nyd file. This writing occurs whether or not you have placed those vertices in the yard map. For berth vertices to display in the N4-generated berths.txt file, you must place them at accurate locations in the yard map in Yard Editor.
The berths.txt file has vertices with 1-dimensional offset calculations, and N4 does not read the #VERTEX attribute data from the berths.txt file. Because Yard Editor has 2-dimensional coordinates for the points in the yard, you must define the vertices against the #VERTEX attribute in the yard.nyd file.
For a consolidated view of all vertices with unspecified geometries, use the Unspecified Vertices view (on page 1).
Before you begin:
Understand that berth vertices must be placed within a 10-meter proximity of the berth for Yard Editor to consider them as ingress or egress vertices for the berth.
To delete a vertex that is referenced by a bollard, you must delete the referencing bollard first and then delete the vertex.
To add or edit a vertex:
Click (the Vertex tool).
Click the location on the map where you want to create or edit the vertex.
Best practice: placing berth vertices directly on the berth ensures that the vertices are aligned properly in XPS. For more information, see Automated pushing of the berths.txt file to XPS (on page 1).
In the Vertex Id form, do one of the following:
Keep the selected vertex ID.
Select a different vertex ID from the list.
This list includes all vertices available in the yard model, except those vertices that are auto-generated by N4 when creating row vertices and paths (on page 1).
Enter a new vertex ID.
Vertex IDs cannot start with the + (plus) or - (minus) symbols. IDs that start with these symbols are reserved for vertex IDs that are auto-generated by N4 when creating row vertices and paths.
Click Save.
To move an existing vertex:
Click (the Move Vertex tool).
